My 2 year old LOVES Bubble Guppies! He just cannot get enough of them!
For those of you who are not familiar with Bubble Guppies, it is a 20 minute television show on Nick Jr. All commercials are saved until the end, helping keep the attention span of pre-school aged children. With bright graphics and fun upbeat songs, the show takes place underwater with 6 fish-tailed pre-school aged classmates, their teacher Mr. Grouper and several other regular characters that follow along with them on their adventures. The Bubble Guppies characters include Gil, Molly, Deema, Nonny, Oona, and Goby who interact and relate to the viewers, asking questions and encouraging them to follow along. Read more about the characters on Nick Jr’s Meet the Characters page.
The show is fun, yet educational. Each episode revolves around a theme. My toddler absolutely loves the colors episode (The Crayon Prix), the “choo-choo-train” episode (Triple Track Train Race) and the Bubble Puppy episode, where Gil adopts a puppy and has to learn how to care for his puppy. The episodes are age appropriate and do not contain any questionable content. I have seen several children’s shows that honestly are annoying and pointless from a parent’s point of view. Bubble Guppies episodes have educational value, are fun to sing along (even as a parent) and I think it is a great show. There are a few episodes that I have seen several times each and I am still not tired of them. When the songs come on, I can’t help but sing and dance along, encouraging my toddler to do the same. It is fun for not just him, but for me as well. As a member of a large group of women who also had children born within a few months of my own toddler, I have seen several others talk about how much they and their child love Bubble Guppies.
Currently Bubble Guppies airs 2 episodes early in the day (starting at 10 am our time) and they also air again later in the day. We even have all of the episodes record on our dv-r so we can pull them up at our own convenience. Sometimes I will even turn on an episode when I need to get things done around the house – I can feel at ease that my son is happy and watching something that I fully approve of.
Since they are still gaining popularity (quite fast though, I might add!), Bubble Guppies toys are still a bit hard to find. I was lucky enough to find a t-shirt and a potty training seat at my local Walmart! When my son wore his Bubble Guppies t-shirt to the playground, he was the envy of all the other little kids. They all loved his shirt! We recently discovered the Bubble Guppies game that we downloaded on our iPad. It is one of the few things that gets him to sit still for a few minutes :)
If your child loves Bubble Guppies, check out the Bubble Guppies Fan Club. You can print out a 25 page coloring book as well as receive an occasional newsletter with other goodies! On the Nick Jr. website, you will find Bubble Guppies printables, lyrics, episodes to watch and games to play. As a Pinterest follower of Nick Jr., I have also seen some great craft ideas posted by them like these cute party hats!
As my son grows, we will continue to follow along with the Bubble Guppies’ new adventures. I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us! As my 9 month old son grows, I know that he is going to love learning alongside his older brothers as they watch the show together.
Keep it up Nick Jr!
