In about a week, I will be picking up 40 pounds of 100% natural chicken with no hormones, additives, or artificial ingredients. Forty pounds! Why? Because I have heard that Zaycon Foods has some amazing chicken and I want to taste for myself.
What will I do with all this chicken? I’m not entirely sure yet but it is going to be exciting! Our crock pot has sat on the back porch a good portion of the past few years, rarely used, so I have some major plans for barbecue pulled chicken. We will also bake some, keeping the meat as low fat as we possibly can. My husband survived a heart attack last May so we have had to cut out fatty meats, eating the leanest we can find.
So..Zaycon Foods. Have you heard of them? I hadn’t until the past year, but it seems as though they are better known than I realized! Based in Spokane, Washington, Zaycon Foods has been bringing farm fresh meats to consumers since 2009. They intend to eliminate the middle man, bringing the fresh meat straight from the farm to your family. Now with everything from milk to berries to salmon, Zaycon reaches many areas across the United States, including right here in central Illinois.
To order my chicken, I simply created an account on their website, placed my order and printed my receipt. On February 3rd, I will go to a nearby location where a Zaycon Foods truck will be waiting. Everyone in the area who has ordered will pick up their chicken the same day.
Why Zaycon Foods? Their meat is straight from the farm and priced really well! Notice that I keep mentioning that the chicken is straight from the farm? That means it is coming fresh and has never been frozen, typically originating from processing facilities in southern and midwest states. The chicken is all natural, free of hormones, additives, and artificial ingredients.
One case has 40lbs of chicken and you can order as many cases as you want. Since our only storage is our fridge and freezer, I will be clearing out any old food from our freezer to ensure we have plenty of space. Being a small family, this amount of chicken will last us quite a while! I can’t wait to try out so many new recipes!
Check Zaycon Foods to see if a chicken event will be coming to a location near you! Orders must be placed no later than the night before, however they DO sell out, so don’t wait too long!
As I am browsing Pinterest for ideas…these chicken recipes are looking quite delicious!
