When I was pregnant with my oldest, my mother joked that my son would be teaching her how to do things on the computer by the time he was 5 years old. Honestly, that’ll probably be true! My 3 year old has picked up how to use the iPad extremely well and loves technology.
With some somewhat long road trips in our near future (3 hour drives are LONG for a toddler!) I started looking for kid size headphones that might help us all keep our sanity on the road. When I searched online and in stores, I found nothing but corded headphones. So many scenarios start running through my head when I think of kids with corded headphones. The easily distracted may forget they are hooked up to a device and start to run off, pulling the device off the table, damaging it as it drops to the ground. Young children may unintentionally get a cord wrapped around their neck which could become uncomfortable or worse, cause strangulation.
After a while, I thought to look specifically for bluetooth headphones, hoping to find a smaller sized set. That’s when I found Lil Gadgets Untangled Pro Children’s Bluetooth Headphones. Bluetooth headphones designed for kids…perfect! They are available in 4 colors – black, white, pink, and blue. Included are a USB charging cable and 3.5mm cable for old fashioned corded listening when the battery runs out of juice.
Sized for children ages 4 and up, the headphones are small enough for little heads but big enough for a young teenager to wear. When I adjusted the strap, they fit perfect on my 3 year old and pretty well on my 18 month old who wasn’t quite as impressed with the magical music headband as his older brother.
The ear pads and headband are covered in a soft breathable mesh material making them comfortable for hours. And they’ll last for hours too! They have a 10 hour battery life and 180 hour standby.
Before handing the headphones over to my 3 year old, I adjusted the volume on the headphones as high as it could go so he could do nothing but turn it down when fidgeting with the buttons (the volume can then be controlled by the device you’re connected to). Alex’s favorite Pandora station is Toddler Radio so I set it up on the iPad and let him have fun.
As he walked around with the headphones for the first time, he took them off a few times to inspect them. While Alex tends to be pretty careful for a toddler, he did pull the earpieces apart some. Fortunately they are designed to hold up to prying little hands. Like I expected, he pushed the buttons on the headphones to experiment and see what happened and soon went off to play while listening to his music. My son is pretty good about letting us know if he is uncomfortable or if something hurts, so his lack of complaints let us know that he was pretty comfortable in the headphones. I can’t wait to see how he enjoys them in the car on the way to Chicago next month! Thanks Lil Gadgets for a great product we will enjoy for years to come!
