Review: Arctic Zero Frozen Dessert

update 6/27/13 – I just noticed a few flavors of Arctic Zero in Walmart’s ice cream section so now they are even easier to try!

In my family, there is someone who is lactose intolerant, another with gluten intolerance, a few who have to be careful of their sugar intake and several who prefer to only eat natural foods.  It is so hard to find guilt-free products to indulge in and fit all of these specifications.  When I came across Arctic Zero, I had to give them a try!  Arctic Zero is gluten-free, suitable for lactose intolerants, low glycemic and all natural.  How is it low glycemic?  Arctic zero sweetens their products with one of the sweetest melons in the world, monk fruit concentrate.  It is 150 times sweeter than sugar and one gram replaces 40 teaspoons of sugar.

Current flavors of Arctic Zero:

  • Chocolate
  • Chocolate Peanut Butter
  • Coffee
  • Cookies & Cream
  • Mint Chocolate Cookie
  • Strawberry
  • Vanilla Maple
  • Pumpkin Spice (Seasonal)

Arctic Zero sent the frozen desserts in dry ice and they arrived frozen almost as hard as a rock so I had to wait a little while to try them.  With the great selection of flavors sent to me, I had a hard time deciding which to try first so I just had a little bite of each to start off sampling them.  Vanilla Maple is not a flavor of ice cream you often see in stores.  When I hear maple, I think of pancakes and waffles with syrup on them so I was a little leery trying this flavor.  To my surprise, it was pretty good.

Next I tried Strawberry.  When I opened up the pint, I noticed how PINK it looked.  Since the products are all natural, beet juice was used to help color the Strawberry ice cream.  After trying all of the flavors, I decided that my favorite was Pumpkin Spice.  I absolutely love anything pumpkin flavored and was glad I got to try it.

While the flavors were true to what they should taste – it did take me some time to get used to the wateriness of them.  Since the frozen dessert is lactose-free, they seem to melt in your mouth quickly, similar to Italian Ice and lack some of that creaminess you associate with ice cream.  For those that have to eat gluten and lactose free or even just low glycemic, the products available from Arctic Zero are great – especially since they have some awesome flavors you won’t find anywhere else and do not have any artificial additives.
