Review: Mineral Hygienics Makeup

Natural products and promoting health is Mineral Hygienics’ main focus as well as my own.  Since I became pregnant with my son just over 2 years ago, I started using products that contained mostly, if not all, natural ingredients.  Even though I am not pregnant any more, I try to continue using all natural products when possible, even my makeup.  I am excited to share that I have been given the opportunity to try Mineral Hygienic’s Full Coverage Kabuki brush, foundation, enhancer and finishing powder!

Mineral Hygienics uses all natural ingredients including minerals that provide sun protection (Titanium dioxide and Zinc oxide offer natural, broad-spectrum sun protection which block both UVA and UVB rays.)  Protecting your skin against the sun is one of the best ways to slow down signs of aging as well as prevent skin cancer.  The minerals are also safe for all skin types and contain anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce acne.  Mineral Hygienics is so confident in their selection of ingredients that they have shared the full list of ingredients found in each product, which you can read here.

I used the “Choose your Skin Tone” page to determine two foundation shades that would best suite my skin.  Being fair skinned in the winter and developing just a slight hint of tan in the summer, the fairly light and light shades were perfect for me.  I used the Kabuki brush provided and both shades blended pretty well on my skin.  Currently, the fairly light shade is best with my skin since I have been spending the cool winter days indoors with my newborn and toddler.  The foundation even helped to disguise the pores that I have been trying to hide since I was a teenager!  Also, moms, if you have a young teenager who is embarrassed of acne, the foundation is a great way to help her feel more confident without looking like she is wearing tons of makeup.

Since I have fairly light skin, I chose the Radiant Mineral Illuminizer as my mineral enhancer.  The color is just slightly shimmery and gave me a natural sun-kissed glow without making me look like a sparkly vampire (like Edward in the Twilight movies.)  Since I have never used mineral enhancer before, I read the mineral enhancer application tips that Mineral Hygienics provides on their website.  The color is slightly pink and is not obvious against the skin since it blends well, but it could also be used as a slight glowing blush for the cheeks for those of you with very pale skin.

Lastly, I tried the finishing powder.  I chose the Sheer Perfection Translucent Powder which applied very smoothly with the Kabuki brush and helped add that perfect finishing touch to the foundation and enhancer.  Finishing powder is another product, like the enhancer, that I have not tried in the past so I do not have a comparison with other finishing powders.  I am, however, very happy with the results I achieved with the finishing powder.  Being a stay at home mom with a newborn and a toddler, I do not have a lot of time to put into my makeup application but Mineral Hygienics makes it easy and looks great without having to put a lot of time into the application process.  In the photo below, you can see me wearing Mineral Hygienics and even after a full day of chasing around my 18 month old, my skin still looks great!

I had been searching for quite a while for a light weight mineral foundation that conceals my pores but does not clog them.  I am very happy with the shades and products that I tried from Mineral Hygienics.  The minerals are light weight and help to conceal any blemishes while looking smooth and natural.   Even after wearing the products all day, my skin has not been itchy like it has been with other foundations.  Also having the opportunity to try the Radiant Mineral Illuminizer and Sheer Perfection Translucent Powder, I have found products to give that perfect finishing touch to my foundation.

If you are new to Mineral Hygienics, check out their starter kits.  You can purchase a mini starter kit with two foundations and a full coverage Kabuki Brush for just $29.99 or a full starter kit containing two foundations, an enhancer, a finishing powder, full coverage Kabuki Brush, Wonder Cover concealer brush and a Flawless Face Mineral Brush for just $59.99.  You can also purchase mineral blush, eye shadow, eyeliner and several other products individually on the Mineral Hygienics website.
