Our Top 10 Favorite Products on Amazon for the New Year (2017) - Vera Bradley Lanyard

Brand: Vera Bradley
Product: Lanyard Necklace Strap

Ok, so this may seem random in my list but seriously, my Vera Bradley lanyard has been the savior of my car keys this winter.  A few weeks ago, I dropped my husband’s keys in the snow without realizing until later.  It took a week of looking through the deep snow and shoveling it around to finally find them.  If I drop my keys, they may still sink through the snow but the lanyard will still be visible.  Plus having the lanyard attached makes it so much easier to find in my purse, or simply wear as a necklace as I’m busy getting my boys in and out of the car.

Back to School!

Back to School!

This post is sponsored by Nature’s Harvest® Bread and Entenmann’s® Little Bites™ Snacks. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Alright moms and dads, the kids are starting school again. We all have experienced – or will soon experience for the first time – a day in the life of a busy parent getting the kids back to school. There are so many things to worry about and supplies to hunt down, school fees, new clothes, backpacks, and the ever-rising cost of school lunches.

One way our family keeps the cost down is by sending lunch from home with the kids. This is especially great for us, because in addition to the cost, our kids are picky eaters. The school lunches in our town have changed; don’t get me wrong, they’re great, but my children simply won’t eat lettuce or sliced zucchini, or even pizza for that matter. Why pay so much for a lunch my kids won’t even eat, just to leave them hungry at the end of the day?

Letting the kids help shop is a great way to get them interested in healthier snacks!

To make sure the kids eat their lunches, we let them be a part of the process, even picking out the groceries! We grab our favorite Nature’s Harvest® Bread, some crunchy peanut butter, and let the boys pick out a jelly or fruit to slice and put on top. Once they have the sandwich ready to go, they choose what shape they want to have it cut into. We keep a collection of cookie cutters on hand so they can cut their own sandwiches and get even more excited about their food!

After preparing the sandwiches, we move on to the sides. At the beginning of each month, we take the boys on a shopping trip and pick out a collection of quick and easy, healthy sides to choose from all month. We separate them into categories, like fruit or veggies, filling snacks like Entenmann’s® Little Bites™ Snacks, and desserts like a jello or pudding cups, and let them pick one from each category.

I got these for the kids but I couldn't help but take some to work for myself...yum!

It seems like a small thing, but letting the kids build their own lunch and choose what they want (even if we choose the available options) gives them a sense of independence, and they come home proudly with empty lunch boxes more than ever before! Do you have a back to school routine to make life easier, healthier, or more fun for your family? I’d love to hear all about it!
