LifeProof: Unbeatable Protection for your iPhone 6

Pink + protective.. LOVE IT! (LifeProof case for iPhone 6 review)

Need a case that provides all around protection, without making the phone too large to fit in a pocket?  Ever accidentally drop your phone in the dog’s water bowl? (OK, so that was me… twice..).

Then you need LifeProof!  LifeProof cases provide total protection, including a built in screen protector, without limiting function or adding huge bulk.  I’ll start with some info to get you familiar with LifeProof’s features, then give my two cents on why it’s a great product that I’ve used on multiple generations of phones.

Features as listed on LifeProof’s website:

  • Built-in scratch protector for total touchscreen defense
  • Works with the iPhone 6’s Touch ID
  • Complete access to all buttons, ports and controls
  • Anti-reflective optical-glass camera lens
  • Maximum sound output and clarity
  • Clear window showcases the iconic Apple logo
  • Slim, sleek profile follows iPhone’s precision lines

The LifeProof fre for iPhone 6 is currently available in 6 colors:

  • Black
  • Pink
  • White/Gray

Waterproof, snow proof, drop proof..this case has it all! (LifeProof case for iPhone 6 review)

LifeProof’s slogan is “One Case – Four Proofs.”  Even though I tested an older model of LifeProof case a couple years ago, I am impressed once again with the fre for iPhone 6.  Not only does the case stand up to everyday drops, but it is dirt proof, waterproof, and snow proof.  That means the cases are designed to protect your phone all year round, no matter the weather.

While I do not have resources to test the case in 6.6 ft deep water for 2 hours, my toddlers happily assisted in testing it in the bathtub.  LifeProof did not let me down among clumsy, slippery fingers and soapy water.  My phone remained dry and protected despite being used as a submarine.  Previous versions of the case have held up for us at pool parties and even snorkeling while living in Hawaii!

My purse is like an abyss full of sippy cups, animal cracker crumbs, and toys.  Sometimes I’m even afraid to reach my hand in there (just joking…kind of…) but with my fre case on, I just drop my phone in and go on my way with no worries.  I can also rest assured as my 2 year old keeps entertained with a game on my phone as we shop.

Waterproof, snow proof, drop proof..this case has it all! (LifeProof case for iPhone 6 review)

LifeProof designed this case to be slim and sleek.  It slides into your pocket easily and does not add bulk to your phone.  The only (slightly) negative tidbit I’d like to share is on the lighter colored cases, like the pink, the rubber around the front may darken from the dye in jean pockets.  This is consistent with other brands using similar materials on the cases, however I will be keeping in this mind in the future as I choose case colors.

Overall, I am impressed with LifeProof once again.  At CES 2015 they announced the fre Power, a battery pack case which I am extremely excited about!

Protective cases for your new iPhone from Otterbox

Protect your new iPhone with Otterbox's new cases!

I was so excited when I was able to upgrade to the iPhone 6.  Like really excited!  I hadn’t upgraded phones in 2 years and had made my iPhone 4s last…right up until the beginning of Fall.  It worked…mostly.  Turns out when you drop your phone a couple too many times (might I add that I somehow have the clumsiest hands?) that eventually parts inside will work themselves loose.  You may not physically see a broken screen but it stops working.  Your husband spends hours fixing it for you, just to find out that other functions aren’t working (speakerphone, headphones, etc.)  So when I was able to finally upgrade to my iPhone 6, I was thrilled!

But I knew that I also immediately needed a protective case.  Who better to look to than Otterbox?

Otterbox has been known for their protective cases for quite a long time.  While I haven’t used their cases the entire time on past phones (maybe that was my problem) I know that they stand up to the claims.  But, with a new phone comes new challenges.  New dimensions that have to be accounted for when a case is developed and new materials that need protected.  The iPhone 6 is larger than past models making this more challenging than before, or so I would imagine.

I was given the chance to try out a few Otterbox cases and introduce them to you in time for your Christmas shopping!  If you, your teen, husband, or anyone else recently upgraded phones, you will want to check out the new line of cases.

I anticipated that my favorite would be the Commuter Series Wallet and to my pleasure, it is everything I had hoped for!  With the usual protection of the Commuter Series cases, this case features a slide out “drawer” that you can slip 3 cards and 1 folded bill into.

The case is a bit bulky and takes some time to get used to but I love it!  I am able to grab my phone and keys and head out the door.  Talk about convenience!  The drawer is snug and does not pop open easily so there is no worry that your cards and money will slip out if you drop your phone or hand it over to your toddler.  It also snaps shut so you know the contents are secure inside.

I love that this case has built in port covers – I cannot tell you how dusty my last phone was after being in my pocket so often.  Speaking of pockets, the Commuter Series Wallet slips in and out of pockets easily, making the case even more convenient.  The only downfall to putting it in my pocket is unrelated to the case itself but soley to the size of my iPhone 6 and the small size of female jean pockets.

One of my favorite things about the Commuter Series Wallet is the choice of colors available.  You can mix and match several colors to create the look you like.  There’s no surprise here that I chose pink and white as my color combination.  I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Another case I have had the opportunity to try is the Otterbox Defender Series for iPhone 6.  My husband chose this case as it is more suited to his needs.  When he works on the house or in the garage, he often has music streaming on his phone.  This rugged, triple layer case with an integrated screen protector is perfect for those needing to protect their phones from dust, scratches, drops, and more.

Also available in an assortment of colors, this case is highly customizable to your color preferences.  My husband chose Jade/Blaze Orange with a Black Holster.  This case has already protected his phone from mishaps while working in the garage this past week!  But this case isn’t just for the manly men.  It’s just as much for moms with toddlers who can’t keep their fingers off their mommy’s phone.   While I do not use the Defender for my iPhone 6, I had it for my iPhone 4 when my oldest was just a baby.  He loved slobbering all over my phone and although the case is not meant to be waterproof, it certainly protected my phone from all that drool.  And of course the case was great for protecting my phone against slippery baby fingers that have a tendency to throw or drop things.

You can purchase Otterbox products on Amazon and Otterbox.com as well as in many stores that sell phone accessories.

iPhone cases designed for the modern age of selfies and fashion

iPhone cases for the modern selfie and fashion age!

According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, a selfie is “an image of oneself taken by oneself using a digital camera especially for posting on social networks.”  The term was not in existence when I was a high schooler and college student taking occasional photos of me and my friends to post as profile photos on MySpace and eventually Facebook.  Now it is a term so common it is used among those of all ages.

In the past few years I have noticed remote shutter controls for cameras.  How neat!  I wondered what could be next.  Photos from mobile phones have become such a trend that the entire social network Instagram is based on it.  So naturally bluetooth devices were created with the same purpose of remotely controlling the shutter of the iPhone.

Low and behold, the Selfy case from iLuv!  And it’s not as cheesy as it sounds.  My initial impression was that it was just for teenage girls snapping photos of themselves all the time.  Then I thought about it.  As a parent, I am often the one behind the camera.  Fortunately, I noticed that early on and made sure to include myself in photos with my boys by taking “selfies” with them.  But, how many photos had I taken of us and missed half of a face because I could not reach far enough while still maintaining control of the shutter button?  The answer to that is “sooooo many!”  So I had to give the Selfy a try!

The case itself is relatively protective.  It is not meant for a rugged lifestyle however it is perfect for general every-day use.  The remote control is built in and slides out of the case with ease.  Simply turn on your phone’s bluetooth, connect, and voila, you are ready to roll!  Once connected, just aim your phone and press the button on the remote to take a photo.

As if the case itself wasn’t cool enough, there is a Mini Tripod to make the job even easier!  Remove the remote, attach the case to the tripod. This is perfect for vacations or quick photo shoots at the park.  What would you use it for?  The possibilities are endless!  I even used mine for some product photos for a few upcoming reviews.

The Selfy is currently available for the iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 5/5s, Galaxy S5, iPad Air, and iPad Mini.

A stylish leather phone case with space for all your cards...perfect!

iLuv has also created a great case for those who prefer to travel light with the convenience of your phone and wallet all-in-one.  The Jstyle Runway is great for the on-the-go mom!  This genuine leather case is available in black (Jstyle) or pink (Jstyle Runway.)

Inside you’ll find 8 card slots, 1 ID window, and 3 pockets for cash, receipts, or whatever else you need.  As you can see from photos, the card section is separate from that of the phone, giving added security to the cards while you use your phone.

Both my phone and cards felt secure in the Jstyle Runway but the case felt bulky once everything was inside and snapped shut.  This should not be a problem if you carry your phone in a purse or wristlet, but may cause an issue if you prefer to keep your phone in your pocket like I do.

iLuv has crafted two awesome cases with unique qualities that would make wonderful gifts this year!  Whether for the selfie loving teen or the light traveling businesswoman, they’ve got everyone covered.  iLuv also has an assortment of power and audio accessories to complete your gift, so head on over and check them out!
