Review: itummy Maternity Band

When I was pregnant with my son (who is now 13 months) I was a first time mom.  I was reading everything I could on parenting to make sure I did everything right.  One thing that I read about was music for the baby before birth.  At 16 weeks, the baby is able to hear sounds outside the womb.  The only headphones I had were earbuds which do not sit well on your belly…and I sure wasn’t sticking them in my belly button!  Instead, I just played music in the room I was in often, hoping he could hear it.  Now that I am pregnant again, I decided to see if there were any better solutions to play music for my belly.  While searching online, I came across the itummy Maternity Band.  How genius!  It is a band that has a special pouch for your mp3 player and has two small speakers that aim at the bottom of your belly.

I was lucky with my son and he was upside down from week 20.  We never had to worry about him being breech…he was in position and ready to greet the world.  The itummy Maternity Band encourages babies to follow the music to avoid a breech position at birth.  I have heard that every pregnancy is different so the itummy may help me make sure that baby #2 is in the right position just like his or her big brother.

When I slipped on the itummy Maternity Band, I was instantly comfortable.  I am only 18 weeks right now and the band is a little loose which is perfect – I definitely will need the room to grow in the next 22 weeks!  The band also can serve as a support band.  I had to pull the band up a little for the headphones to be in the right place but as my belly grows, they will adjust to the right position.  Hooking up your mp3 player is easy – I even used my iPhone.  Just plug the headphone jack in and start your music and you are ready to go.  Be sure to check the volume before you put the speakers down on your belly because the volume depends on your mp3 player’s volume.

As I mentioned before, the itummy Maternity Band has a pouch for your mp3 player at the top.  Since my iPhone is a little large and my belly still a bit small, I did have to adjust the band to be comfortable but with a smaller mp3 player, it is hardly noticeable.

The itummy Maternity Band is great to wear around the house.  I washed dishes and went on with my normal life with the band on and almost forgot it was there until my phone rang.  If you keep the volume at a reasonable level, you will not even notice it as you wear the band.  I can’t wait to create a special playlist for when I use the itummy and let this baby start listening to some tunes!

Review: Belevation Maternity Boy Shorts and Mid-Thigh PettiPants

During my first pregnancy, I felt a little self conscious if I wore a dress since I was a little curvier than I used to be.  I had love handles developed from gaining weight from the pregnancy and regular underwear just seemed to make them more noticeable.  My first pregnancy was mostly during fall and winter.  By the time my son was born, it was just starting to get warm out so most of my maternity clothing was for cold weather.  Well, I am pregnant again and baby #2 will be born after a long hot summer of being pregnant.  I have been looking online for maternity clothing to suite the different weather this time around and came across Belevation.

Belevation specializes in seamless knit maternity undergarments.  In their online shop, you can find yoga pants, a belly band, and two varieties of underwear including Briefs and Boy Shorts.  There are currently two versions of the Boy Shorts – the shorter boy shorts and the Mid-Thigh PettiPants.  Belevation has been experimenting with the longer version of Boy Shorts, the Mid-Thigh PettiPant so I was sent both varieties to review.  The Boy Shorts are available in sizes small (4-6) through large (12-14) and in three colors; nude, white and black.  The Mid-Thigh PettiPants are available in sizes small (4-6) through extra large (16-20.) Made with a seamless antimicrobial MicroTencel (made from Eucalyptus) the shorts can stretch in every way you need to make them comfortable and are moisture absorbent.  What’s really cool is that on the Belevation Facebook page, they have several albums showing them creating some of their maternity products – they are all made at their headquarters in South Carolina.

When I first opened the package, I was impressed with how soft both products were!  The material is durable yet breathable and almost feels like microfiber.  I opted for the nude color since I am fair skinned and plan to wear these with a few summer dresses that are light colored.  The picture below shows a model wearing the Boy Shorts in black.

First I tried on the Boy Shorts.  Wow!  So comfortable!  I could seriously just wear these around the house as shorts because they are so comfortable!  They hug your skin perfectly without being overly tight but have the right amount of stretch.  I opted for the size that best matched my pre-pregnancy pant size and it was perfect.  The sizes are right on target!  I walked around the house a little bit (my one year old was looking at me curiously the whole time since my whole middle was now skin colored) and noticed that these do ride up a little bit on your legs but not too bad.

Next I tried the Mid-Thigh PettiPant. These are made of the same material as the Boy Shorts and are just as comfortable.  They hug your skin perfectly and are amazingly soft!  If they seem a bit long, you can just slide them up a bit or even roll them up.  I personally like these better because they are more versatile – I can make them shorter if I need but they are also long enough not to ride up my legs as I walk.  Both products have the belly band that reaches up over your belly and stretches as your belly grows larger.

I definitely will be wearing these throughout my pregnancy; I wish I had known about them last year while I was pregnant with my son! They are great under a dress or even just under casual clothing while you lounge around at home.  I honestly think these are the most comfortable underwear I have ever owned.  They are definitely a must-have during pregnancy!

A last note – the Belevation Boy Shorts and Mid-Thigh PettiPants are machine washable and you can tumble dry them on low.  I am known for accidentally washing and drying clothes that have special instructions so this is perfect for those of you with a horrible laundry habit like myself.
