A year and a half ago, my family and I spent my son’s first birthday at the St. Louis Zoo. If you have ever been there, you know how huge the zoo is. I mean, we can make a full day of walking around and exploring without getting bored! My then 1 year old, was interested in running everywhere rather than sitting in the stroller. If you know my husband and I, you would know that we keep a good eye on our kids when we are out. We are not careless. But, if you know us, you also know our kids…and how fast they are! Fortunately we have not had any accidents where we could not find our children, however we did see another couple that could not find their toddler who was the same age as my own and I could not imagine how scared they must be.
Later that day, I saw a little boy walking around..squeaking… It took me a moment to figure out where the sound was coming from – his shoes! I realized at that moment, those shoes were a great way to indicate where your child was if he or she started to run off. After doing some research online, I found Yochi Yochi and their fun squeaky shoes. With a squeak in the heel, these shoes are available in sizes 4 to 10 (toddler sizes of course), the shoes come in 4 cute styles: Prince Kairu, Princess Sakura, Captain Zuga, and Miss Mushi.
My favorite style is Prince Kairu. These shoes are bright and vibrantly colored with a green frog on the toe section. The shoes would be easy to spot and hard to mix up at daycare because they are so unique! With velcro closures, the shoes are easy for mom or child to fasten, but strong enough to stay on as your child runs around. I suggest ordering a size or two up from what you would expect to fit your child as these seem to run a bit smaller than the shoes we normally buy for my boys. Personally I would rather the shoes be a bit big and have room to grow into than too small and unable to be worn. The shoes do not feel cheaply made – they are durable and feel as though they will definitely last!
Just last week we celebrated my youngest son’s 1st birthday. He is still adjusting to walking in shoes but as soon as he discovered his shoes could squeak, he had a blast walking around the house, squeaking with every step. While we get the occasional look from the annoyed adult (most likely not an understanding parent), we have had several people tell us the shoes are adorable and such a great idea. I agree because we can now let my son practice walking as we shop or walk through the zoo, without worrying he will manage to stealthily sneak away.
I have added Yochi Yochi to our 2013 Holiday Gift Guide because I feel they would be a great gift for a toddler. Not only are the shoes fun for the newly walking toddler, but they give parents added safety as they are out and about with their child.
